There are several new things happening here in Guatemala:
1. NEW ROOF: Today they began pouring the cement roof of the new ASELSI clinic building. We and the ASELSI staff look forward to the day that we can begin treating patients there with medicine, physical therapy, and milk for malnourished children.
There are several new things happening here in Guatemala:
1. NEW ROOF: Today they began pouring the cement roof of the new ASELSI clinic building. We and the ASELSI staff look forward to the day that we can begin treating patients there with medicine, physical therapy, and milk for malnourished children.
2. NEW CLINICS: We are in the process of trying to establish some new rural clinics. Our plan is to begin in September or October with some new Friday clinics and to work fewer Fridays at ASELSI. One possibility is in Chulumal IV. Over the past two years Cathy Hartle, a family nurse practitioner, has been doing monthly (or so) prenatal clinics there in cooperation with the local health center. We had talked about possibly taking this over from Cathy and/or starting a more fixed scheduled clinic there as she will be more attached to the ASELSI site once the new clinic building is open. Cathy is back in the U.S. due to a family emergency so we had the opportunity of doing her “Bus Clinic” today. Here are the pictures.
4. NEW TEAM: In October, a new medical/surgical/dental team from McAllen, TX is scheduled. Some will be working at the local hospital and others in the surrounding villages. Along with all of the medical and dental care, we hope to arrange several surgeries including cleft lip and palate repairs.
3. NEW MUSIC CLASSES: Over the next month, our partners in Canillá will be back in the U.S. for a wedding. Therefore, we will not help out with that clinic each Saturday. Instead, we will be doing “music clinics” at our Torre Fuerte Church. Our goal is to teach about musical worship and encourage more people in the church to get involved with the worship team. Neither I nor Areli have ever taught on the topic and I don’t even know a lot of the musical terms in Spanish, but we will do our best and hope that God will use it.
4. NEW CHRISTIANS: We were encouraged to have new believers in our Church service this week! I don’t know all of the details surrounding their conversion, but there were a husband and wife along with others who received Christ’s forgiveness this past week and were presented to the church yesterday. Praise God!!!
It is encouraging to see that God is doing new things as many continue to tell the Old, Old, Story. Please pray for us for wisdom and diligence as we do our part in these new things.
