Thanks again to everyone who supported me in the Run for the One in June. The final total of donations received was $1612. After several months of looking for the best use of the money, we have made a purchase: an operation room light.
The hospital has been having lots of difficulties with their current antiquated lights. Agape found an offer on this lamp that was a third of the price of buying the exact same light here in Guatemala and several hundred dollars cheaper than the best price direct from the company in the U.S. The price turned out to be $1600. So those who supported me bought a light! Also, with some other funds, Agape bought two more and will arrange for all three lights to be delivered to Guatemala.
In closing, as representatives of Agape, we want to let you know that we do our best to use your donations wisely. Whenever imperfect people try to help imperfect people, there can be difficulties with corruption, welfare mentality, and other “abuses of the system.” Honestly, this is a big turn-off to me both here in Guatemala and when I work in the U.S. But as Christians we are commanded to take care of the poor. Pray for us that God would give us patience and wisdom as we serve those in need.
