Yesterday we got back to Canillá.  I was sick with a bad cold during most of our time in Quiché.  Rebekah got for a few days but not as severe.

We were able to visit most of the people and places we wanted.

ASELSI is a clinic where I had worked before a couple days of the week.  Since I had last been there, they have hugely expanded their clinic building.  They also have physical therapy and a school for children with disabilities.  Another large part of their ministry is the Bible school to educate pastors at various levels.  It was good to visit with old friends.

Speaking of old friends, we spent some time with our Guatemalan Pastor Eliceo and his family.

They are wonderful people.  We also worshipped with them at the Sunday service.  We spent two years helping with the worship team.  It was good to see that the seed the Lord planted through us has continued to grow.  Also, the church building had a major upgrade from the dirt/mud floor and leaky tin roof that we once knew.

After church, they invited us to Pollo Campero—the most prestigious chicken place in Quiché.

We also spent a lot of time with our friends Sally and Erv from Michigan.  We first met them in 2009 as a result of this website.  Sally liked the work that we were doing and also the fact that we were University of Michigan fans so they came down to visit.  They never left and now they are building their house in a nearby village.

We then headed back to our temporary home in Canillá with joyful hearts for what God is doing in these areas of Guatemala.  Some sheep and cows got in our way.

And then more cows.  But that didn’t stop us.

We are so thankful for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Quiché, Chichicastenango, and Canillá.  We have shared lots of life together.  All of them, and many others, were so close to us in the pleasant and the difficult times—especially with the death of our daughter, Esther Nina.  In three weeks we will leave Guatemala again.  It will be uncertain if we will ever see some of these people again on this earth but we look forward to eternity when we will never have to say goodbye again.
