Adonai International Ministries is among other things, a combination of aviation and medical care.
The clinic that we went to yesterday was reachable through a 1 ½ hour, quite dangerous drive or a five minute flight.
The airport in Guatemala City is reachable by a 5 hour drive (which can be much longer depending on the conditions) or a 20 minute flight. And since, the small plane lands at the main airport, it is just a drive from one side of the airport the other to check in for a commercial flight. This ability makes a short trip like mine this week much more practical than traveling on the roads. Honestly, I don’t think I would have considered coming work these 5 days of clinic if I would have had to travel on the roads to Canillá. And it allows for teams, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and others a quick in and out, which makes them more likely to want to come for a long weekend to help meet some special needs.
I know that the pilots love flying, and it is such a practical help to the medical ministry and others. But it is even more than that. As they rub shoulders with local pilots, mechanics, and other flight-related people, they share Jesus with them through their lives and their words.
It is neat to see the different giftings that God gives working so well together. I don’t so much care about the details of a flying machine as long as it gets me where I need to go. And the pilots would rather stay away from the operating room when in use. But we all rejoice when someone receives a desperately needed surgery or some other medical treatment. And may God ultimately work through this for His glory and may many be brought to Him.
